INTRODUCTORY VERSE EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE

A brief examination of conscience is made.

Hebdomadarian: I confess to almighty God, *

All: to blessed Mary ever-Virgin, to blessed Dominic our Father, to all the Saints, and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault: I ask you to pray for me.

Hebdomadarian: May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins, free us from all evil, keep us safe and strengthen us in every good work, and bring us to eternal life.

All: Amen.

HYMN

Text: Jesu, nostra redempto, 10th c. [Completorium, O.P., 1957]; based upon Breviary O.P. (1957), II, p. 16; adapt by David F. Wright, O.P. (b. 1941).
Tune: JESU NOSTRA REDEMPTO, LM; Plainsong, Mode 4 [Completorium O.P., 1957], alt.

Antiphon

Psalm 31 (30): 1-6
Trustful prayer in adversity
Father, into your hands I commend my spirit (Luke 23:46).

2 In you, O LORD, I take ref∙uge. *
Let me nev∙er be put to shame.
In your justice, set me free; *
3 incline your ear to me, and speed∙ily res∙cue me.

Be a rock of refuge for me, *
a mighty strong∙hold to save me.
4 For you are my rock, my strong∙hold! *
Lead me, guide me, for the sake of your name.

5 Release me from the snare they have hid∙den, *
for you indeed are my ref∙uge.
6 Into your hands I commend my spir∙it. *
You will redeem me, O LORD, O faith∙ful God.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,*
and to the Holy Spir∙it:
as it was in the beginning, is now,*
and will be for ever. A∙men.

Psalm 130 (129)
A cry from the depths
He will save his people from their sins (Matthew 1:21).

1 Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD; *
2 LORD, hear my voice!
O let your ears be at∙ten∙tive *
to the sound of my plead∙ings.

3 If you, O LORD, should mark in∙iq∙uities, *
LORD, who could stand?
4 But with you is found for∙give∙ness, *
that you may be revered.

5 I long for you, O LORD, *
my soul longs for his word.
6 My soul hopes in the Lord *
more than watch∙men for day∙break.

More than watchmen for day∙break, *
7 let Israel hope for the LORD.
For with the LORD there is mer∙cy, *
in him is plenti∙ful redemp∙tion.
8 It is he who will redeem Is∙rael *
from all its iniq∙uities.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, *
and to the Holy Spir∙it:
as it was in the beginning, is now, *
and will be for ever. A∙men.
